5 cut-price transfers Bolton Wanderers explore in January

The Trotters may want to make some additions in the January transfer window

In order to bolster their roster for promotion, Bolton Wanderers may target players available on cheap contracts during the January transfer window.
Bolton Wanderers may be interested in Tom McIntyre, Patrick Bauer, and Nathanael Ogbeta because of their backgrounds and contractual circumstances.
Bolton Wanderers have options in Lee Gregory and Kayden Jackson, who might be reasonably priced, to play centre forward.

For fans of Bolton Wanderers, the January transfer window should be interesting.

The Trotters are currently vying for automatic promotion from League One back to the Championship after an outstanding first half of the season.

To assemble a team that can sustain that challenge for the duration of the season, the club will be trying to get things right when the market reopens at the beginning of the year.

That might entail bringing in some possible deals, which might become available once more as players get closer to signing their final contracts with their individual teams.

Ian Evatt’s team, who already added eight new players to their first-team roster back in the summer, may find these deals beneficial.

Keeping that in mind, we’ve looked at five players that Bolton Wanderers may be interested in signing for a reduced price during the January transfer window, right here.

Bolton is somewhat short on depth at centre back, so they might want to target that position in January with George Johnston out for the season due to injury.

Tom McIntyre is one player they could do that with; he would help the Trotters across their backline this season and bring valuable experience from his time spent competing at the Championship level.

McIntyre’s contract expires in the summer, so this is his last opportunity to raise money, and Reading may need to raise money given their precarious financial situation. This could mean he’s available for less than he otherwise might be.

Patrick J. Bauer

Patrick Bauer is another centre back that Bolton may want to look at for that position in the middle of their defence.

The German has been a consistent player for his current team, Preston North End, but he has struggled to get game time since the beginning of last season. As he approaches the last six months of his Deepdale contract, he may be a target.

Physically, he wouldn’t have to travel far from Preston to Bolton, so he could become accustomed to the Trotters quickly. Additionally, his previous League One promotion experience with Charlton could make him a valuable addition to Evatt’s team starting next month.

Nathanael Ogbeta

Ever since Nathanael Ogbeta transferred from Shrewsbury Town to Swansea City in January 2022, things have just not gone right for him.

The left-back’s contract in Wales is set to expire in the summer, so the Swans might be willing to let him go for a low price next month. The left-back has only made two appearances for the Championship team during that time.

Ogbeta would give Bolton a longer-term option on the left side of defence, as Zac Ashworth is only on loan for the current campaign. His League One experience from last season—both at Shrewsbury and while on loan with Peterborough United—could also be a benefit in the Trotters’ push for promotion.
