Bolton boss makes Portsmouth claim as promotion rivals bring in former Aston Villa and Sheff Wed man

the most recent information on League One as Portsmouth keeps up their campaign to move up to the Championship.

The manager of Bolton Wanderers, Ian Evatt, has advised his team to concentrate on this weekend’s difficult FA Cup match rather than the forthcoming match against Portsmouth.

With just goal differential separating the two teams ahead of their top-of-the-table match at Fratton Park next week, the Trotters are currently holding off John Mousinho’s team at the top of the League One table.

Bolton will take a break from their promotion push on Saturday when they host League Two team Harrogate Town in the FA Cup second round. Evatt has insisted that his team concentrate on their next game instead of their trip to Fratton Park.

“Portsmouth isn’t there yet; our whole focus is on Harrogate,” he stated to The Bolton News. We are treating them with the respect they so richly deserve.

“It’s great to see them establish themselves in the league right now; they are a good team doing good things.” Our entire attention is on Saturday. That’s how we have to be; everything must be laser-focused and at full tilt. We have communicated to the players that we are not good enough to be able to let up on the gas.”

Oxford signs a former defender from Aston Villa.

Oxford United, Portsmouth’s rivals for promotion, made an unexpected move in the transfer window by finalising the signing of free agent Joe Bennett.

The former Middlesbrough and Aston Villa defender has been without a club since leaving Championship team Cardiff City in the summer, but he will now rejoin the U’s after manager Des Buckingham was forced to weigh his options due to left-back Greg Leigh’s injury.

Bennett signed a contract that will keep him with the team through the end of January, and Buckingham has shared expectations for the 33-year-old while he plays at Kassam Stadium.
