Ian Evatt hailed his side’s attitude following their 3-1 win against Accrington Stanley in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy round of 16.
Cameron Jerome, Aaron Morley, and Kyle Dempsey all scored goals to help the Whites advance to the quarterfinals.
With games coming thick and fast, Evatt made seven changes to the team that drew against Luton in the FA Cup third round.
“I have said it before, we have got a really good squad of players and we trust them all,” the manager stated.
We made seven changes tonight but maintained the proper mindset and application. This was true winter football—windy, a bobbly pitch, and sometimes you have to play to the conditions.
“We did it pretty well, and I felt the front two were incredible; Cameron and Jon absolutely set the pace.
“They made the ball stick and were always a threat from behind. We should have had more goals, but I’m happy to be done.”
Cheltenham travels to the Toughsheet Community Stadium this Saturday, so there won’t be much time to celebrate the triumph.
While recent results have been promising, Evatt is not getting carried away and understands that there is still a lot of football to play.
“We have still got a long way to go, there are many games to go, but so far (we are handling it well),” he said. “We still have a handful of people gone, and we just need to keep everyone safe.
“The window is clearly still open, and we will see how it evolves and develops. For me, it was all about having the appropriate mindset. That was key.
“We felt like everyone would be discussing the number of games we play or discuss how amazing the draw was on Sunday. To get back up and do it tonight was a true test of character.
