Ian Evatt delivers “positive news” on injury’

Despite missing the last part of the match, the Northern Ireland international helped his team secure all three points despite not being able to register a goal against Wycombe. As he did the previous season, Charles is leading the way for Bolton in front of goal.

The 28-year-old striker for Wanderers has netted 13 goals in 29 League One appearances, which is not far off the 16 he scored during the whole previous season.

The season is about to enter a crucial phase. With only 16 league games remaining, Bolton will be vying for one of the top two slots. They are now seven points behind Portsmouth at the top of the table and one point behind Derby County in second place, but Bolton still has two and three games remaining.

Charles will play a significant role in their promotion campaign, therefore some supporters and members of the club’s backroom staff may be concerned about the injury he sustained in last night’s game.

Ian Evatt hopes that Dion Charles’ knee injury isn’t a serious one

The Bolton manager disclosed that the Northern Irish forward had sustained a knee injury following the match. According to the Bolton News, he stated during the match that he was certain Wanderers’ lucky charm had not suffered any serious injuries, but they were still awaiting a complete assessment from the medical team.

“Dion felt his MCL (medial cruciate ligament) in the second half with that block tackle, but it looks like it has settled pretty quickly, so that is good news, positive news,” stated the 42-year-old. “We won’t know the extent until the morning but we are quite comfortable that he will be OK.”

George Thomason, a midfielder for his team, will also be sidelined for the next two games after the club’s attempt to have the red card he received in their encounter against Northampton Town rejected.

Dion Charles would be a big miss for Bolton if injury proves to be worse than expected

Bolton’s attacking duo of Charles and Victor Adeboyejo was quite tightly matched in the 2022–2023 season. In the league, the Northern Irish attacker scored 16 goals, while Adeboyejo scored 14. There’s a little bit more of a void this season. Compared to the Nigerian’s eight goals, Charles has scored 13. This is despite the 28-year-old scoring just two goals in his previous 12 league games.

It doesn’t appear that their offensive strength is as dispersed as it was in prior years.

Although Aaron Collins’ signing in January might aid in that regard, Evatt does not want his two strikers to go from wide areas to centre positions, where he excels. Having said that, he did start the Wycombe game with Charles.

The players surrounding Charles will need to step up and make up for his absence if he ends up missing more time than anticipated.
