JONES JOY AT TREBLE TONIC

Vice captain Gethin Jones, who assisted Wanderers in completing a rapid hat-trick of League One victories, was happy to see the mission accomplished for the time being.

The Whites won 2-0 against Charlton Athletic on Saturday to cap off their FA Cup season before it even began.

And Ian Evatt’s team achieved their immediate goal of moving up to third position in the table after gaining nine points over a strong eight-day stretch.

Jones remarked, “To be honest, it was a huge week, especially after (losing to) Carlisle before the international break.”

“Our goal for the first three games back was to win all three after taking a few days off to relax and heal.

“I don’t think we’ve gone a whole week where we’ve gone win, win, win – especially with two tough away games like we’ve had,” the manager added in reference to me and Ricco’s presence.

That was one of the talks we had, and we also discussed how we’re made up to come here and win and keep a clean sheet.

“We stated that it would be extremely beneficial for us to come here, make a statement, and maintain a clean sheet against a very dangerous front four like Charlton has.”

Wanderers won their fourth away game of the season at The Valley thanks to an outstanding effort that saw them record their first shutout in five outings.

The Whites’ promotion-winning League Two season saw a similarly fruitful three-game run under Evatt, but they elevated the achievement by adding victories at Wycombe and Charlton to their home victory against Northampton.

Following a three-match suspension, Jones returned to the team at the same time as the three victories. The defender also thinks that Wanderers’ depth and calibre of players are crucial to their current winning streak, which has produced six victories in seven games heading into Saturday’s Cup round one matchup with Solihull Moors.

Regarding his first-ever red card, Jones continued, “I was devastated when I got sent off and caused the team to sit back against Peterborough in that game.”

“I felt really bad about myself, but I responded, I’ve worked hard since, and I’m ready to get back on the pitch.

“I believe this is the most competitive team I have ever been a part of. Now that I’m back, Will (Forrester) has been amazing. We switched the starting lineup against Wycombe, and I returned to the wing-back position. We may alter our tactics both at home and away, as well as the appearance of the opposition.

“Everyone performs their part, but the manager will decide which team to start. The impact of the substitutes is noticeable, and at Charlton, I felt that Dan and Jon were fantastic when they came off the bench, keeping the ball up for us and making it difficult for the centre-backs.

Everybody is pushing the other. The same thing is happening in midfield, where Azza joined Paris on Saturday. Last Tuesday, I felt Paris was amazing.

“We push each other every day in training, and everyone is vying for their positions. That is the reason I adore this team. Being on the winning team is something we strive for every day in training. Whether it’s passing, shooting, or possession exercises, everything has to be flawless.
