Aaron Collins also penned an emotional tribute after his two-and-a-half years at Bristol Rovers came to an end

Bolton Wanderers have signed Aaron Collins from Bristol Rovers for around £750,000 to bolster their promotion hopes.

Ian Evatt’s side are second in League One and are battling it out with Portsmouth, Peterborough United and Derby County for the automatic places. Collins arrived at the Gas from Forest Green Rovers two-and-a-half years ago on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old, who can play anywhere in the front line, has mostly been out wide for Rovers this season. Having scored twice as the Gas defeated Scunthorpe United on the penultimate day of the season, he was voted the division’s Player of the Season the previous year and played a crucial role in winning League One promotion under Joey Barton.
Collins has nine assists and three goals this season in the league when he comes to Bolton. Additionally, on loan until the end of the season, the Wanderers added Caleb Taylor, a defender for West Bromwich Albion.

Collins said farewell to Rovers fans in an emotional speech on the team website, recalling his best moments at Memorial Stadium. “Gasheads, what a two-and-a-half years it has been,” he exclaimed. From creating history with the 7-0 victory on that decisive day, to scoring that spectacular goal against Oxford in the FA Cup, to winning 4-3 away at Rochdale.I will always cherish my role in returning this team to League One, and I will never forget the thrill of celebrating with all of you Gasheads atop that lamppost on Gloucester Road. It was a unique accomplishment for me to be named League One Player of the Season 2022–2023 and I am extremely appreciative to have been a member of this amazing team.

“Without the Gasheads’ encouragement and the noise you create every week, I could not have succeeded. I hope to one day rejoin the Gas family and will always treasure the memories of playing in the blue and white quarters. What lies ahead is anyone’s guess.

“I want to express my gratitude to all of the staff and players who have supported me during my time at Rovers. I’ve had a great experience here and have made lifelong friends. UTG. Irene, good night for now.
