Bolton battling with League One trio for Man United starlet>

Bolton could be set to strengthen their hand for the final few months of the season to bolster their promotion push

With three games remaining, Bolton Wanderers is only two points off the top of the League One standings. They have improved from their excellent 2022–23 campaign and aim to do so by winning promotion later this year.

Under manager Ian Evatt, the Trotters have been a formidable force, losing just five games this season and giving up the fewest goals (24), among all the teams in the division.

Nevertheless, after faltering in the play-offs the previous season, losing to Barnsley over two legs, Wanderers may require an additional boost to their roster to get over the finish line this time.

Let’s examine the most recent rumours originating from University of Bolton Stadium as the January transfer window approaches its conclusion, which is just over two weeks away.

Even though Bolton already has a lot of alternatives in the midfield, they have been linked to adding more this month.

Although Evatt has a very strong roster to pick from in Aaron Morley, Kyle Dempsey, Josh Sheehan, George Thomason, and Paris Maghoma on loan from Brentford, they are still being mentioned as contenders for Man United starlet Dan Gore.

Four League One teams have indicated interest in loaning in the 19-year-old for the balance of the season, including Blackpool, Fleetwood Town, and Shrewsbury, according to the Daily Mail’s Transfer Confidential column.

After playing frequently in the preseason, Gore has made two appearances for United in 2023–24. He made his Premier League debut last month on Boxing Day against Aston Villa.

But, United believes that his best chance of development is at another team. As they did with Shola Shoretire last season, they may decide to move him to Bolton, a team in the Greater Manchester area.

Bolton will face competition from rival teams in their league not just for Gore, but also for three other teams, according to the Lancashire Telegraph, who have expressed a desire to sign Blackburn Rovers’ Niall Ennis on a season-long loan.

Since joining Ewood Park from Plymouth Argyle in the summer, the 24-year-old hasn’t had much of an impact. While the Pilgrims were winning promotion from League One in 2022–23, he scored 12 goals, but he hasn’t found the back of the net for Jon Dahl Tomasson’s team.

Bolton has a wealth of strikers on its roster, including Carlos Mendes Gomes, Dion Charles, Victor Adeboyejo, Cameron Jerome, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, and Dan Nlundulu as alternatives to Evatt.

Bolton may be hoping for Ennis to provide them a little extra in the 18-yard box to aid them to promotion glory, as Charles and Adeboyejo have combined for 20 league goals, but after that it’s tough.
