Bolton Wanderers heavy blow as 5 players are suspended

Due to suspension, Wanderers’ trip to Wycombe will not include the defensive tandem of Ricardo Santos and George Johnston.

Both centre-backs picked up their fifth bookings of the campaign during Saturday’s defeat against Wigan and will now be forced to watch from the sidelines.

Aaron Collins and Jay Matete are also sitting on four yellow cards each and must avoid being cautioned at Wycombe if they are to feature against Barnsley on Boxing Day.

After the trip to Adams Park on Friday night, Bolton’s 19th league game of the campaign, the threshold for a ban is raised to 10 bookings.

Will Forrester played in the backline against Huddersfield in the Vertu Trophy and could now get an opportunity against the league leaders.

Eoin Toal has been out injured since the win at Stevenage over a month ago, while Josh Dacres-Cogley has slotted into the back three at times.

Chris Forino has been recovering from a longer term issue. The towering defender had surgery on his hamstring after he was forced off against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

When Jordi Osei-Tutu left over the weekend, he was moving cautiously. After missing time with a knee injury, it was the wing-back’s first league start for the Whites.

Additionally, Wanderers have been a little weak in midfield because Kyle Dempsey has been out since the loss to Birmingham about two months ago.

Scott Arfield hasn’t played since the trip to Walsall, but the veteran may return to training this week following a minor calf injury. Josh Sheehan has missed the last two games due to a hamstring issue.

John McAtee has been used in a deeper role at times this season following his summer switch from Luton.

Last week, Ian Evatt suggested that Carlos Mendes Gomes could be included in plans for Wycombe. The versatile midfielder has been out of action with an Achilles injury since February.

Matt Bloomfield’s side enter the game on the back of a 4-1 victory at Shrewsbury after goals from Beryly Lubala, Caleb Taylor, Fred Onyedinma and Dan Udoh.

The Chairboys are on a 17-game unbeaten run in the league, with their only defeats to date coming against Birmingham and Wrexham.
