The Celtics have two starters on the injury report with an important game against the Magic up next on the schedule. Jaylen Brown is listed as questionable with a right adductor strain. Jrue Holiday is probable with a right ankle sprain. No other C’s are on the injury report.
Notably, the adductor strain for Brown is the same injury he suffered last week against the Raptors. He slipped on the Raptors’ in-season tournament court, which forced him to leave the game a few seconds early. Brown didn’t miss any time because of the injury, including playing in a back-to-back in Memphis and Charlotte.
Brown on the injury report isn’t a great sign, but it doesn’t appear to be too serious an injury. He played 35 minutes against the Bucks on Wednesday in one of his best games of the season. He scored 26 points and dished eight assists as the Celtics fended off the Bucks to get to 12-3 on the season.
The Celtics take on the 10-5 Magic, who are on a five-game winning streak. Orlando had Boston’s number last season, as well, and has been one of the pleasant surprises this season. Friday’s game is also part of the in-season tourney, which adds a little more juice to what should be a fun matchup.
Thus far, the C’s are 2-0 in their in-season tournament games as part of East Group C. The Magic are 2-1, so they have a chance to knock the Celtics off in the standings. The tourney games come to a close next Tuesday, so there’s some extra importance there.
