Celtics’ Injury Is a Big Slap In The Face

The Celtics, who at 11-2 have the NBA’s best record, aim to extend the league’s longest active win streak when they face the Hornets Monday night in Charlotte.

Even though Kristaps Porzingis’ block at the buzzer decided the game, the Boston Celtics prevailed Sunday night at FedExForum over the severely injured Memphis Grizzlies, who were down to eight players, despite their best efforts.

The 102-100 triumph brought the NBA’s record-breaking winning streak to six games. Additionally, it raised the league’s best crunch time to 5-2 and its overall record to 11-2.

For the second half of their back-to-back, the C’s are now in Charlotte. Al Horford only participated in the second game of their first and only other back-to-back this season, a 117-94 rout of the Toronto Raptors.

That came on the heels of the former Florida Gator not suiting up when Boston bested the Brooklyn Nets 121-107 in its first in-season tournament game.

That approach deviates from how the Celtics typically pace the 16-year veteran through back-to-backs, often having him play on the front end but miss the next day’s contest.

In Sunday’s Celtics victory against the Grizzlies, Al Horford (42) forces a jump ball against John Konchar (46).

But Horford (rest) will miss Monday’s game against the Hornets after playing 22 minutes and finishing with five points, three rebounds, and two assists against the Grizzlies.

Derrick White is also out of the Boston team’s trip to the Queen City. He scored 10 points, dished out four assists, pulled down three rebounds, and blocked a shot in the victory in Memphis, yet his injury report has him out for personal reasons.

Monday night’s tilt between the Celtics and Hornets will tip off at 7:00 EST at the Spectrum Center.
