Despite being a rival of the Celtics, Draymond Green yet has a lot of respect for some of the players on the squad. The Warriors forward, who is having a fantastic season for the team, talked extensively on his podcast this week about what he feels is a slight to Jayson Tatum of the Celtics.
Despite Boston’s 45-12 start to the season, Tatum has been described by betting odds as a significant outsider to earn MVP. At the moment, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have higher chances of taking home the trophy.
According to Green, “The Celtics are 7.5 games ahead of the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.” “Do people really believe that Jayson Tatum is only in fifth place because of how good the Celtics are? There are moments when it seems like that player is the best on the squad and is performing well. That is obviously not the objective in this case.
“It’s obvious that the rules have changed significantly because, in this case, the guy is fifth? And the Celtics lead the conference by 7.5 games? Regarding Jayson Tatum, the objectives have changed. I am aware of JT’s obligations. It hasn’t been that way for anyone else, I must add, therefore JT won’t be considered seriously for MVP until he wins a title.
Tatum has been discussed as the MVP in recent years; in 2022 and 2023, he came in fourth and sixth, respectively. Tatum’s performance has suffered in certain areas this season as a result of the team’s roster acquisitions of Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, but Green thinks there may be another reason.
“Perhaps it’s because he made it to the NBA Finals and was eliminated, and everyone thought, ‘Oh, you had your chance,'” Green remarked, “but holy cow, that was tough and brutal.” How JT consistently trails behind in this polling is beyond me.I’m not sure how the objectives were changed for you in that way, but they ought to admit it. Those are actualities.
