Bradford City holds match in memory of teacher who died in fire disaster”

A collection for the Peter Greenwood Trust Fund will be made before Bradford City’s home match with Notts County this Saturday (March 2).

Peter and his two sons, Rupert and Felix, tragically perished in the fire at Valley Parade in May 1985.

The nonprofit organisation raises funds to provide scholarships to students who are deaf or hard of hearing enrolled in post-16 institutions, many of whom attend Bradford College and Hanson Academy.

The nonprofit organisation was founded in honour of Peter, a committed Bradford deaf education teacher.

Peter was employed at Heaton’s Thorn Park Schools for the Deaf and the defunct Odsal House.

Former Thorn Park School coworker and teacher Michael Pulford described Peter as a fine individual who was dedicated to deaf education.

He was incredibly well-liked, compassionate, and diligent.

He enjoyed football as well. He was a big assistance to me while I was a Thorn Park team coach.

“When Thorn Park won the Deaf Schools National Five-A-Side final in 1984, he drove the team in the van.

The death of Peter and his two sons left the school in a state of shock. Students and employees came to their funeral.

Mr. Pulford, who serves on the committee of the Peter Greenwood Memorial Trust, explained that the trust’s mission is to give small monetary grants to members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community in order to help their financial needs.

The grants support their further study in secondary, postsecondary, or other educational settings, as well as in training facilities.

He stated, “This fund benefits deaf students across the United Kingdom.”

“We have had excellent relations with Bradford City since we began collecting in the late 1980s.

Over £1,000 was donated for the charity last year, and we intend to continue the collection as a yearly event.

Before the game, there will be a gathering of 25 to 30 persons outside the turnstiles, a large number of them are former Peter’s students. To express their gratitude to Peter, they wished to do this action.
