Lee Sharpe sends clear Bradford City message concerning Graham Alexander

The Bantams missed out on a play-off place last year, finishing ninth in the League Two table.

The gap to the top seven was just one point, with the club narrowly missing out on the chance to fight for promotion back to League One.

Bradford have been outside the third tier of English football since 2019, but will be eyeing a push for promotion in 2025.

Graham Alexander was appointed manager last November following Mark Hughes’ departure.

Sharpe urges Bradford to back Alexander

After a strong second half to the season, Sharpe feels that Alexander is the right guy to lead Bradford ahead, exclusively to Football League World via William Hill.

To improve their chances of promotion, he has pleaded with the Yorkshire club to support the 52-year-old in the transfer market this summer.

“Yes, he has a good record and at this level he knows the League,” Sharpe responded when asked if Alexander was the ideal guy for the team.

Without a doubt, he needs their support in order to succeed.

“Time is crucial because Bradford can contend for promotion with the correct additions, but you already have a strong group.

Bradford has strong fan base support, thus momentum can be helpful. If they can strengthen their roster and get off to a strong start.

Bradford came within one point of finishing in seventh place in the league despite winning their final five games.

After finishing sixth under Hughes in the previous season, the Bantams were guaranteed a spot in the play-offs, but they were unable to advance after losing to Carlisle United in the semifinals.

Hughes was fired at the beginning of the term due to a rough start, but Alexander was able to turn things around in the second part of the campaign.

They will now concentrate on assembling a squad that can contend for a top seven finish in the upcoming season.

Graham Alexander’s managerial experience

Alexander has previously held managerial positions at many EFL clubs and in Scotland.

His coaching career started in 20211 with a caretaker position at Preston North End. In 2012, he was appointed permanent manager of Fleetwood Town.

Before moving to Valley Parade in late 2023, the former forward managed Scunthorpe United, Salford City, Motherwell, and MK Dons.

Alexander’s support on the transfer market is still unknown, as the window is scheduled to open on June 14.

Alexander has earned the right to summer backing

There are many reasons for supporters to be excited about the upcoming campaign, especially after the season ended well.

Alexander’s five straight victories to close the term demonstrate that things are falling into place under him and raise the possibility of a bid for promotion in 2025.

To get across the finish line, Bradford’s first team roster will need to be slightly improved, but the new manager has earned the right to be supported in the transfer window.

Alexander’s team will be regarded as one of the favorites for a top three berth if he can build on his strong start to life with the club over the next several months.
