City’s summer recruitment drive is building momentum as Alexander looks to strengthen a side that finished a point short of the play-offs.
But he has made it clear that each position will be up for grabs.
“We don’t lie to players to get them on board,” said the Bantams chief.
“We tell them where we see them competing and what position they are going to be competing for.
“I’ve never sat down in front of a player in the last 10 years and said, ‘you’ll be guaranteed to play every week’. I would be lying.
“I don’t think that’s a very good squad if you go to a team where you are promised a game whether you’re playing well or not.
We definitely try to provide them with as much information as we can. However, we wouldn’t have attempted to sign them in the first place if we didn’t believe they were talented players.
“Callum Johnson stated that even though he was well aware of the competition prior to signing, he still desired to do so.
“That’s a great indicator of a player who is willing to fight for us.”Although City has been among the more active League Two teams in the market thus far, Alexander emphasized that quality should always take precedence over quantity.
