SMALLWOOD: “HARD TO ACCEPT”

Richie Smallwood acknowledged that it was difficult to accept his elimination from the Bristol Street Motors Trophy Semi-Final last night.

The City captain believed that if the Bantams had had more opportunities, they would have won the game, but he believes the most important thing to remember from the game is how well they played.

“It was a difficult one to handle tonight,” he remarked following the last whistle.

“We had opportunities to win, and we performed well enough to win the game.

Unfortunately, we gave up a ridiculous goal and lost the match as a result of it.
Every game in cup football is a win-or-lose situation. We have some good things to take away from tonight, despite our defeat.

“We generated a great deal of opportunities and chances. Sadly, tonight was simply not our night.

The sixth player for City wants his colleagues to be proud of the effort they put forth, feeling confident in their play and realising that the only thing missing was the game-winning goal that would have given them the lead.

The 33-year-old thinks that City can use this evening as fuel for the remainder of the Sky Bet League Two season and for Saturday’s trip to Holker Street to play Barrow.

Smallwood continued, “We played well, so we can take confidence.”
They did a good job of defending. They made no mistakes, and their keeper was excellent.

“We should be pleased with how we performed. Despite our strong play, we were just not able to win the game.

“We can use this performance as motivation for the remainder of the season and for our upcoming game.

“We’re going to train hard this weekend and will return next week.

“On to the next match. We want to keep playing so that we can go into our next game with confidence and head into Saturday hoping to win and pick up three points.
