Teenager charged with double murder in Bradford

A teenager from Kirklees has been sentenced to life in prison after killing two young men with stabbings in Halifax town centre and gravely wounding a third.

Following his conviction for the murders of Joshua Clark, 21, and Haidar Shah, 19, in the early hours of October 1, 2018, Bradford Crown Court sentenced Rashane Douglas, 19, of Jade Place, Huddersfield, to life in prison with a minimum term of 28 years today, June 4.

At 3:48 a.m. on Sunday, reports of an attack involving three guys outside a nightclub on Commercial Street prompted the call for officers.

After being admitted to the hospital, Haidar and Joshua both died from their wounds.

The third adolescent, who was eighteen, was also admitted to the hospital due to severe injuries. After receiving care, he was released.

Douglas went to the Huddersfield Police Station to turn himself in and was later arrested that same day.

On October 4, he was subsequently charged with two charges of murder, one crime of attempted murder, and one count of possessing an offensive weapon.
Douglas entered a not guilty plea and was found guilty of both murders on Tuesday, March 12, after a three-week trial at Bradford Crown Court.
He was found guilty of intentionally injuring the 18-year-old, but not of attempting to murder him.

“Whilst the sentence given today will not bring Haidar and Josh back, we hope it will bring some degree of comfort to know that Douglas has now been brought to justice and had to answer for his actions.     

   

“Two young men had their whole lives ahead of them and this tragic case illustrates only too well the appalling human cost of people carrying and using knives, and we hope it will serve as a very stark reminder to others of the terrible consequences of knife crime.”     

   

“What started as a night out with friends, ended in utter devastation for two families, friends and those across Calderdale. We will continue to educate and support ways to prevent young people from carrying knives.”
