Letes; Brentford consider a move for a key Southampton star in January.

The Bees are reportedly thinking about making a move for highly regarded Carlos Alcaraz during the winter transfer window.

Alcaraz joined the Saints in January of last year after leaving Argentine team Racing Club.

Although the midfielder excelled in the Premier League, he was unable to assist the team avoid the drop.

Despite missing out on most of September, he is a crucial component of Russell Martin’s plans for the first team in the Championship.

Alcaraz was signed by Brentford before he arrived at St. Mary’s, and they are still keeping tabs on him.

They might try again to sign the 20-year-old in 2024 after he decided to join with Southampton instead of them.

Racing Club received approaches from teams like Crystal Palace, Brighton, and Everton as well, but the Saints’ £12 million offer sealed the deal.

Following Southampton’s relegation, Alcaraz was thought to be a summer transfer target for Palace and Italian powerhouse AC Milan, but he stayed with the south coast club.

However, if Brentford make the Championship team an acceptable offer, a transfer in January might be in the cards.

The Argentine, who is at ease playing in a more forward role than he has for Martin’s team this season, may be used by the Bees to improve their attacking options.

With seven points after seven games, Thomas Frank’s team is now ranked 14th in the Premier League.

In the team’s first 10 league games of the current season, Alcaraz has appeared in eight of them.

The midfielder has shown promise in the Championship, but he has yet to score or provide an assist.

Alcaraz did not start any of Southampton’s previous four losses, but they were able to turn things around with his return to the lineup.

This year, the south coast team wants to return to the Premier League, and Alcaraz might be essential to attaining that ambition.

Alcaraz remained despite the summer departures of several significant first team players.

In 18 appearances during the previous season, he contributed four goals and two assists in the top level.

The matchup between Southampton and Rotherham United is coming up on Saturday.

Racing Club will receive a portion of the money Southampton receive from the eventual sale of Alcaraz according to a 15% sell-on clause.

That will probably be taken into account when Southampton determines how much to pay for his future.

Due to Alcaraz’s contract, which runs through the summer of 2026, the Saints are in a good negotiation position and are not have to sell.

It may cost Brentford up to £20 million to persuade Southampton to sell in January, which is more money than the London club looks likely to put up.

Anything below that mark is unlikely to get the second tier side’s attention.
