‘Stop messing with our lives’: Norgaard hits out Brentford points deduction battle’

Everton’s points deduction has been reduced from 10 to six points, piling further pressure on the Bees

Christian Norgaard has hit out at the Premier League’s points deduction farce as Brentford face up to an uncertain relegation battle, accusing administrators of “messing with people’s lives”.

On Monday, Everton saw their punishment for breaching financial fair play rules reduced from 10 points to six, enough to lift Sean Dyche’s men above Brentford even before the latter’s defeat at West Ham last night.

Following a crushing 4-2 loss at the London Stadium, which marked the Bees’ fifth loss in six games, Thomas Frank’s team is currently just two spots above the relegation zone despite having played one more game than Luton, who are five points worse off in 18th position.

Nevertheless, with both Everton and 17th-place Nottingham Forest facing new profit and sustainability charges, the situation might alter once more before the season ends.

Captain Norgaard of Brentford remarked, “It’s difficult for me to comment on these deductions.” Someone is using a calculator somewhere and adding and subtracting points. I’m not sure. They are interfering with people’s lives and careers.

“To be honest, I have no idea what is going on. We must prioritise ourselves over Everton. When all is said and done, I’m sure we’ll get better and find ourselves safely in the Premier League, but there are some areas we need to address and work on.

Hearings about the latest infractions by Forest and Everton are scheduled for next month, but because both teams have the option to challenge any sanctions, there is worry that the issue won’t be resolved until the end of the season.
The relegation contenders are confused about what exactly it will take to avoid the drop, as there is even a chance that any sanctions won’t be decided upon until after the season’s final day on May 19.

Brentford midfielder Vitaly Janelt said, “We can’t rely on other things, like hoping Everton gets [more] points dropped.” “To get the points and do our best to stay in the League, we have to concentrate on ourselves.”
After winning the rematch in early November, Brentford has now dropped 12 of their previous 15 Premier League games after their loss at West Ham.

After losing to Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester City (twice) in recent weeks, Frank’s team had anticipated that a trip to the Hammers, who were winless in 2024 prior to last night, would prove to be a softer touch. However, they were taken aback by Jarrod Bowen’s early double and never recovered.
It’s suicide in this league when you give up that easy and trail 2-0 after seven minutes, Norgaard remarked. “What is your plan for recovering from that? You put so much strain on yourself.

“I believe we need to talk about it, we need to get better, and we will get better. I’m confident that we will improve and have a fantastic season finale. Of sure, things are really difficult right now.

In response, Neal Maupay scored his seventh goal in as many League starts against the Hammers. However, Bowen scored his hat-trick just after the hour mark, and Emerson’s thunderous strike ended the match. Yoane Wissa’s late curler was merely a consolation goal.

Ben Mee, a former Burnley player, also hobbled off the pitch hurt for Brentford, arriving at the stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

The west Londoners’ schedule does not get much easier; they play host to Chelsea in a derby on Saturday and then visit Arsenal, who is now winning, a week later.

“We generally perform fairly well against the better teams; we just need to show it again,” Janelt stated. “It’s encouraging that we haven’t lost to Chelsea in a long time.

Naturally, if we don’t execute at a 10-out of-10 level, we’ll find ourselves in a same situation as today. We need to put our own needs first, give ourselves another week to train, and then hopefully defeat Chelsea at home with three points.
