The Brisbane Broncos have reportedly entered the final stages of contract negotiations with five-eighth and Grand Final star Ezra Mam.
The Courier Mail reports that Mam has committed his long-term future to the Brisbane Broncos, agreeing to a new deal with the club and will formalise the contract extension by his 21st birthday next week.
It is understood that the Broncos will confirm his future in an announcement before they leave for Las Vegas next month for their opening game against the Sydney Roosters
Mam’s new deal is expected to be about $3 million for the next four years, according to extensive reporting.
Coming off of his finest NRL season, the Dally M five-eighth of the year has established himself as a marquee player and the league’s top star. With the extension, he will not be able to pursue a trade with The Dolphins, his rivals in Queensland, and will no longer be available for hire.
Along with further depleting the halves stocks for the remaining NRL teams, he will be the fifth playmaker to sign a new contract this off-season, joining the likes of Jarome Luai (Wests Tigers), Mitchell Woods (Canterbury Bulldogs), Jesse Marshke (St George Illawarra Dragons), and Kaeo Weekes (Canberra Raiders).
It’s up to the ruling class to convene, but I think we’re coming very close. It’s simply a matter of time, Walters has previously stated on the five-eighth. I’m sure it will happen.
“I have no doubt that he will stay. Here, we love him and he loves the place. We’re also putting a lot of effort into finding Ezra a fair agreement where he feels comfortable, which I’m sure we can accomplish.
The focus of the Brisbane Broncos will now shift to keeping hold of fullback Reece Walsh, who is among the top free agents and will be without a contract at the end of the 2024 season. Walsh can begin talks with other teams on November 1.
Adam Reynolds, the halfback, is on the verge of signing a one-year contract extension that will enable him to play through the 2025 campaign.
