5 free agents who Bristol City must consider

Bristol City will want to improve its playing roster this summer in an attempt to climb the Championship table the following season after yet another mid-table result.

In recent years, the Ashton Gate-based team has undoubtedly established itself as a reliable Championship contender, rarely facing relegation and never having a chance to gain promotion.

Although there are worse situations to be in, the supporters of the Robins will want to see improvements in what will likely be Liam Manning’s first full season in charge next season. A successful transfer window will position them for success.

The Robins, who are owned by billionaire Steve Lansdown, will have the opportunity to bolster this summer and might be a compelling club for stars to join.

In light of that, Bristol City should think about signing these five free agents in the upcoming months.

5. Cyrus Christie

Republic of Ireland international right-back Christie is a free agent after two seasons with Hull City, and Liam Manning’s team may find him useful.

This season, George Tanner has done a good job playing right-back, but the 31-year-old Christie has 320 Championship appearances under his belt, so adding him to the roster would provide the Robins more depth.

Christie was a consistent starter for Hull before sustaining an injury in January. As a result of his inability to get back into Liam Rosenior’s starting lineup, Christie was let go. He’s still a talented Championship player, though, and this summer there will undoubtedly be a lot of teams interested in him.

4. Ollie Norwood

After being released by the Blades, former Sheffield United captain Norwood is searching for a new team. Football Insider reports that Hull, Watford, and Sunderland are among the Championship teams showing interest in the Northern Ireland international.

This summer, with veteran player Andy King retiring and Matty James free, the Robins will want reinforcements in the middle of the field.

With two Championship promotions under his resume, 33-year-old Norwood would be the ideal player to replace that kind of experience. The former Sheffield United star may be able to help the team climb up the table and make a run for the play-offs.

3. Josh Onomah

Josh Onomah is an attacking midfielder who has been without a club for more than a season. Signing him would be risky for Bristol City, but at this stage, the player has everything to prove.

This summer, the Robins could use an attacking midfielder since Scott Twine is expected to return to Burnley and Andi Weimann has been released from his West Brom loan.
Onomah, who is 27 years old, still has a lot of time to demonstrate why he was so highly regarded as a young player and why he appeared in 32 games for Tottenham before joining Fulham.

There’s obviously a player there, and in the upcoming months, Liam Manning might want to take a chance on him.

2. Przemyslaw Placheta

After a brief stint with Swansea City ended, Polish international winger Placheta became a free agent. Nevertheless, the former Norwich player demonstrated during his time in South Wales that he is a very competent player at this level.

Placheta played ten games for Swansea, making an impression with his speed and cunning, however his final product might use some work.

Despite missing the last few weeks of the season due to injury, the Polish international made enough progress with the Swans that a Championship club decided to sign him this summer.

Given that Sam Bell and Anis Mehmeti are both on the team, the Robins may not be in dire need of a left winger, but Placheta might provide depth and be a valuable addition.

1. Aaron Connolly

Liam Manning has expressed his desire to acquire a striker, and Republic of Ireland player Connolly, who was cut loose by Hull City, would be the ideal fit.

It’s easy to forget that Connolly is only 24 years old, even though he has already proven he is a capable player, especially at the Championship level, when playing for Brighton and Hull City.

The Irishman was let go by the Tigers after just one full season with the team, despite scoring 12 goals in 52 Championship appearances—including eight in 30 games last season.

Connolly might be a wonderful addition on a free transfer with a run of games and confidence, and he’s sure to draw interest this summer. Bristol City ought to be among
