Bristol City confirm new talks

Bristol City have reportedly had a bid of £2.5 million for Auxerre winger Lassine Sinayoko rejected as they look to bolster their squad for the Championship season ahead

Sinayoko was an integral part of AJA’s Ligue 2 title winning campaign in 2023/24, as the 1996 French campions returned to the top flight at the first time of asking. The Mali international scored eight goals and laid on four assists in 25 starts for Christophe Pelissier’s side.

The 24-year-old is a graduate of the Auxerre academy, which has previously turned forth incredible players like former Liverpool forward Djibril Cissé and Manchester United icon Eric Cantona.

His skill has undoubtedly caught the attention of Bristol City, who reportedly had a bid of about £2.5 million rejected by the Ligue 1 team. Even with a purported sell-on percentage for Auxerre in the proposed acquisition, their choice was apparently unaffected.

With just one year left on his contract in France, AJA may try to start a bidding war, which might result in a final amount significantly exceeding that suggested by the Robins, despite the fact that Sinayoko is very important to his squad. Interest from all around Europe has already been reported this summer.

In order to go closer to the top six, Liam Manning’s team will be trying to build on their encouraging 11th place result from the previous season’s Championship and add some quality that they may have lacked in the offensive areas.

Tommy Conway was the only City player to score ten goals or more in the previous season, and their reliance on him hindered their ability to compete with the big boys in a competitive division as ever.

Sinayoko at the young age of 24 has already proven his winning mentality and importance to Auxerre. The eventual Ligue 2 champions failed to win three of their four games while the winger was away at the Africa Cup of Nations, a competition their star man scored three times in for Mali.
