Andy King has said that this Saturday’s (May 4) match between Bristol City and Stoke City will be his final professional football match.
King will wrap off his 18-year playing career at the bet365 Stadium, where the Robins end the 2023–2024 season. King has chosen to determine his own future plans because his contract at Ashton Gate expires in the summer.
“To Bristol City, the club I have the privilege of playing my last ever game for, it has been an honour,” he wrote in a section of his Instagram post.
“From a little child who watched his family’s team play in the Dolman stand to an individual who has had the privilege of scoring goals for them. I’m honoured to say that my final game as a player will be the same as my very first live football match, which was against Bristol City. I hope I’ve done the fans proud; I’ve tried to be one of you every day as the club’s representative.
Nigel Pearson signed City’s tenth player in 2021, and he became a member of the team. The two had previously worked together at Oh Leuven and Leicester City. In his three years as a player at City, he has made 63 appearances.
Outside of City, the midfielder from Barnstaple earned 50 caps for the Wales national team and was a member of the team that qualified for the 2016 European Championship semifinals. Despite being listed at 5000/1, he was a member of the Leicester City club that won the Premier League title that same year.
King supported Leicester City all the way from their ascent from League One to the top of English football out of loyalty to the team. During his tenure at the King Power Arena, he had loans at Rangers, Swansea City, and Derby County.
