In the 2024–2025 Championship season, Bristol City will play Leeds United twice more following the Whites’ 1-0 loss to Southampton in the play-off final on Sunday.
Following their removal from the Premier League just over a year ago along with Leeds and Championship winners Leicester City, the Saints secured an immediate return to the competition with a triumph at Wembley thanks to an early goal from Adam Armstrong in the first half. Daniel Farke’s team will undoubtedly be regarded as one of the favourites for automatic promotion, but the departure of two teams with squads that are realistically in the Premier League raises the possibility that there will be greater competition in the second division for the upcoming season.
Additionally, the full list of opponents for the upcoming campaign has been revealed, allowing supporters to plan their perfect away days. Although travelling to the south coast would have been shorter than travelling to West Yorkshire, the overall mileage has decreased by just 2% as a result of the relegation of two other Yorkshire teams, Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town, and the exceptionally short round trip offered by League One play-off winners Oxford United.
Along with Sheffield United, Burnley, and Luton Town who were demoted from the Premier League, West Brom and Norwich City are still second-tier teams, and Portsmouth and Derby County are the other newcomers promoted from League One.
The fixtures for the new season will be released on Wednesday, June 26 at 9am with Liam Manning’s side expected to open the campaign with an away fixture given that the opening weekend of August 10 clashes with the Balloon Fiesta. There are no changes regarding the shortest and longest trips with Cardiff City and Sunderland taking those respective accolades but just looking at the list of teams, it doesn’t seem to be as daunting a division as it was last term.
