Bristol City man axed from managerial role

Noble, who worked for Rotherham from 2012 to 2014, did not assume leadership at Wealdstone until January. He had taken over after Notts County had made a move to sign Stones manager Stuart Maynard.

But with his contract being terminated, his reign has come to an abrupt end. Neil Banfield, a former coach at Rangers and Arsenal, who served as Noble’s assistant, has also departed the team.

After their departure, Wealdstone was just above the relegation zone on goal differential, sitting in 20th place in the National League table.

Wealdstone Football Club released the following statement: “Wealdstone Football Club can confirm that first team manager David Noble’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect. Neil Banfield, the assistant manager, has also departed the team.

The board of directors has not made this reluctance decision lightly. We regret to inform you that this decision was made after careful and thoughtful deliberation. It is being made in the best interests of Wealdstone Football Club, especially with regard to our current fight to maintain our National League position.

“We would like to recognise that David and Neil are two of the best people we have ever met; they are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the game. We firmly believe that, had certain conditions been met, their time with the club could have yielded the kind of outcomes for which we all aim and had hoped when appointing them. Throughout their time with us, their professionalism, devotion, and loyalty to the club have been clear.

“We would like to thank David and Neil for their hard work and devotion while they were employed by the club. We hope for the best for everyone of them in their upcoming undertakings.

“The board has determined that an outside appointment at this crucial moment would be too disruptive, with only five National League games left in the season. As a result, Sam Cox, the first team coach, will step in as the squad’s temporary manager with the help of a few experienced first team members. In order to maintain consistency and stability among the team as we play the remaining games of the season, this decision has been made.

“This is not the time to think back on past choices. The club’s whole attention is now solely focused on Tuesday night’s home match against Southend United. We beg everyone associated with the club to unite and support Sam, the team, and the senior players.

We have fought so hard to get into and remain in this division, therefore your support is essential to us maintaining our standing in it. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation, understanding, and steadfast support in advance of this time of change.
