Could these Robins’ players have featured in a Bristol City shirt for the last time?
With Liam Manning taking over at Bristol City midway through the season, the approaching summer will be crucial for the Robins and their aspirational young manager.
The 38-year-old will be in charge for his first full summer at Ashton Gate, giving him his first genuine chance to have an impact on the playing team.
That will, of course, include adding players, but it also entails benching some players.
Since several of the club’s senior players have contracts that expire at the end of June and no new deals have been revealed, it’s possible that they’ve already played their final game for the team.
Andreas Weimann
Andreas Weimann, a forward for Bristol City, appears to have played their final game with the team.
Weimann, who played the second part of this season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, has a contract that expires at Ashton Gate at the end of June.
Weimann has publicly acknowledged that his contract’s appearance-based clause, which would have prompted a new agreement, played a role in his decision to leave Bristol City and the lack of playing time they were willing to give him.
Weimann is unlikely to sign a new contract after learning this, and it appears that he will be moving on to other pastures this summer.
It will be intriguing to observe if he commits to West Brom long-term
Andy King
Another veteran Bristol City player, Andy King, has already participated in their final game with the team and his contract is about to expire.
after having a lot of experience, the 35-year-old has not played much for the Robins this season after agreeing to a one-year agreement in the summer.
King has been a member of the Ashton Gate team since 2021, but he has now decided it is time to go on after just under 65 games for the Robins.
King, who played football for more than 400 years as a senior, announced his retirement this past weekend, just before the season’s last game.
We want the best for him in the future.
Matty James
Like King, Matty James joined the club in 2021 and may soon find himself at Ashton Gate.
Like the other players on this list, he signed a three-year contract with the Robins in 2021, and it is set to expire this summer.
In contrast to King above, James has played a significant role in the team this season and frequently serves as captain when on the pitch.
As such, it would not be extremely strange to see a new contract between James and Bristol City before June 30th, even if he has currently played his final game for the team.
