Bristol Rovers confirm signing of experience midfielder

Jake Garrett became Bristol Rovers’ 12th signing of the summer on Saturday and made a cameo from the bench in their friendly against Cardiff City

Jake Garrett, the newest player signed by Bristol Rovers, is described as a “classy footballer” by Matt Taylor, but the team won’t put too much pressure on the 21-year-old midfielder right away because he still needs to get up to speed.

Prior to the Gas’s last preseason friendly against Cardiff City, Garrett’s signing on a season-long loan from Blackburn Rovers was announced on Saturday afternoon; however, the midfielder had already arrived at The Quarters the day before.

In the Gas’ 2-0 loss against the Bluebirds, the 21-year-old saw 25 minutes from the bench—his first in blue-and-white uniforms. However, it appears that he will require some time to adjust to his new environment.
There is a lot of anticipation for what Garrett can contribute to this Rovers team as the new League One campaign begins on Saturday against Northampton Town. Garrett made 28 appearances for Blackburn previous season, 21 of which were in the Championship.
Following the loss to Cardiff, Taylor remarked, “He’s a classy footballer.” “As a left-footed midfielder, there needs to be some balance there. tenacious. He most likely needed some time to adjust to the game’s current tempo. He just arrived here yesterday, so that was difficult.

“We’ve been working towards this one for a number of weeks. We had to wait for certain things to happen at Blackburn but he’s played Championship football, a good level of football. He’ll add to that midfield dynamic. I think we’re going to see a lot more of him moving forward.

“So we won’t put too much pressure on him too soon and he probably needs to get up to a certain level of speed which where the rest of the group are at.”

After Garrett became the Gas’s twelfth summer recruit, there won’t be many more signings before the transfer window ends on 30 August. However, some exits are also probably in the cards.
On paper, though, Taylor’s midfield depth and quality appear especially strong given the addition of Jamie Lindsay, a player who participated in the Championship the previous season, to the roster this summer. Grant Ward and Kamil Conteh, who occupy those eight spots, are also valuable members of this group, especially the latter.
