Bristol Rovers injury crisis worsens as two defenders forced off in Exeter City defeat

The pair were replaced in the first-half of Rovers’ League One encounter at the Memorial Stadium with Exeter adding to Matt Taylor’s absentee list in the backline.

After losing to Exeter City at home in League One, Bristol Rovers now face a new injury concern in their defence.

Sonny Cox was the game-changer that evening, returning the three points to Devon. The versatile Josh Grant and the fan favourite Connor Taylor both limping off against the Grecians. James Connolly replaced the former within the first ten minutes, and Lewis Gordon was brought on as a substitute during the halftime break for the latter.

Ever since he broke his finger a few weeks ago, C. Taylor has been dealing with injuries of his own this season. Grant, who overcame his injury problems from the previous season, has actually had a strong record of availability this year. He is 25 years old.

The injuries sustained tonight add to Matt Taylor’s list of defence absences, which already includes George Friend and James Wilson, two experienced defenders. This is made worse by the absence of Jordan Rossiter and Grant Ward, two midfielders for the Gas.

Chris Martin, the team’s leading scorer, was also absent from the Pirates’ loss at the Mem because of illness, according to his management.

With Oxford United visiting this weekend, Rovers will be hoping that the injuries sustained this evening are not catastrophic as games are coming up quickly.
