Bristol crash: Officer charged after man dies in collision

A police officer who has been accused of driving recklessly and causing death is scheduled to appear in court.

On September 14, 2024, the 38-year-old officer in an unmarked police vehicle chased after a Volkswagen Tiguan that had evaded police on Newfoundland Circus in Bristol.

A Honda was struck by the Tiguan during the chase. The Independent Office for Police Conduct said that the driver of the Honda later passed away from severe injuries.

For legal reasons, the Avon and Somerset Police officer’s identity cannot be revealed; nevertheless, on Thursday, they will appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court.

The accusation follows an obligatory report to the police watchdog by Avon and Somerset Police in September 2024.
