Bristol murder as three jailed

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three children were found dead at a house in Bristol.

The discovery was made by Avon and Somerset Police after they responded to a welfare concern call in Blaise Walk, Sea Mills, at approximately 00:40 GMT.
According to a police statement, the small children were declared deceased at the spot.
The 42-year-old arrested woman is being held by police at a hospital.

The police claimed that “prior police contact” was the reason for informing the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
“This is an extremely tragic and heartbreaking incident in which three children have sadly died,” said Ch Insp Vicks Hayward-Melen.My deepest sympathies are with the children’s family members, and we will make sure that our family liaison unit provides them with support.”There is no longer any concern, in our opinion, as this was a unique incidence.

The IOPC said it had been notified of the incident by Avon and Somerset Police, with the force saying there had been prior police contact earlier this month.

A spokesperson added: “We have requested a paper referral with further information about the prior contact and once received, we will assess it to determine whether further action is required from us.”

The Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Shelford, stated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding “such an appalling event has occurred” was necessary.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the deaths of three children today in Sea Mills,” he stated.
“It is tragic that these youngsters died. My sympathies are with the local community, which I know will be affected, and with everyone who knew and loved these youngsters.

“This appears to be a singular incidence, but the police have made an arrest. According to their assessment, the larger community is not at greater risk.

“There are questions to be asked about how such an appalling event has occurred and what could have been done to prevent it, but for now, I ask that people allow the police to investigate.”
