Police lunch murder inquiry after man dies in Bristol

Avon and Somerset Police received a report of a 30-year-old man being taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary by a member of the public with a stab wound at around 20:30 GMT on Thursday.

The attack is believed to have taken place in Ashley Road.

A 43-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder after the victim died in hospital, remains in police custody.

Police officers believe there was an altercation near the junction of Ashley Road and Grosvenor Road where the victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

A police cordon on Ashley Road and Grosvenor Road has been lifted and the roads have been reopened.

Bristol Commander Supt Mark Runacres said: “Despite the best efforts of medical professionals at the hospital, a 30-year-old man has tragically died.”

He added: “This is the fourth murder investigation launched in east Bristol since June last year.

“We don’t believe there is a wider risk to the public as a result of this incident, however we recognise the concern recent events are causing, and the negative light this is shining on our city.”
