Woman dies in Bristol fatal crash involving car

A woman has died after an accident in Bristol last night

Officers were called to Brunel Way at about 17:30 to the incident involving a car and a pedestrian.

A woman in her 60s has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs – and has since been released under investigation.

Police have now made an appeal for information.

In a statement, a spokeswoman from Avon and Somerset Police said: “Officers were called at around 5.30pm to a complaint of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on the A370 Brunel Way.

“The pedestrian was brought to hospital. Despite the greatest efforts of emergency care workers, she regrettably died from her injuries. Her next of kin have been informed and our sympathies are with them during this sad time. They will be offered help by a specially-trained family liaison officer.

“A woman in her 60s has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through narcotics. She has been freed under investigation pending further enquiries.
“The route was stopped to traffic travelling into Bristol until being reopened at around 9pm. We would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding as officers carried out their enquiries.
