The Nets have continued to battle despite their litany of injuries.
Considering that they have likely been the most injured team in the NBA, the Brooklyn Nets have had an amazing start to the season. Since the season began, they have consistently been without three starters, including forward Cameron Johnson.
In most of their games, the Nets have maintained their competitiveness in spite of the injuries. They have participated in a number of close games that, in greater health, may have produced better outcomes. Johnson is optimistic about the Nets because he believes they have what it takes to compete, especially now that he’s back.
“It’s just a good group of guys. Competitive. There’s still some stuff to figure out but guys are invested, playing the right way. Then you add Ben (Simmons) to the mix. He looks the part right now,” Johnson said on Run Your Race. “There’s so much potential and money to be made playing off of that, we’re just tapping into that now.”
Johnson believes Simmons is the key to their success
Currently one of the Nets’ most seasoned players, Ben Simmons is a veteran of the league. Despite his prior All-NBA and All-Star selections, some people don’t think highly of him in light of his contentious departure from Philadelphia. Ben has shown in the first few games that he is capable of leading the playmaking for Coach Jacque Vaughn and the Nets.
The playmaking of Simmons has largely been the reason behind the Nets’ fast-paced style of play throughout the season. They play more slower and their offence doesn’t flow as effectively as they would want when he isn’t playing for the club.
Given that he is an excellent paint presence in addition to having the quickness to match perimeter players, Simmons’ defensive influence is also a major talking point. He will run in transition to create opportunities for his teammates, and his rebounding has helped finish off plays.
Cam Thomas and Mikal Bridges work well on offense
Mikal Bridges and Cameron Thomas have been the Nets’ standout players in addition to Simmons. In particular, Thomas has excelled as the Nets’ top scorer and is enjoying a breakout season. Thomas was averaging 26.9 points per game before to his injury, solidifying his status as one of the league’s top young players.
Being one of the team’s top scorers and a reliable defender, Bridges has continued to be one of the most reliable players. Going forward, this Nets team has a lot of potential, especially with coach Vaughn ensuring sure everyone is set up for success.
