Nets’ frustrating ankle injury

Cam Thomas’ offensive displays come to a halt, as the Nets guard is set to miss time from an ankle injury from the Clippers game.

The 2023–24 NBA season has been quite the roller coaster for the Brooklyn Nets. Before going on a three-game winning streak to turn things around, Brooklyn dropped their opening two games of the season. Despite having played a major role in the team’s success, Cam Thomas has been sidelined due to an injury sustained during the Nets’ most recent victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

PJ Tucker and Thomas collided in the third quarter of Thursday night’s game, stopping Thomas in his tracks despite his normal leadership of Brooklyn’s offense. The third-year guard tripped on Tucker’s foot, spraining his ankle. Shams Charania reports that he is anticipated to miss two weeks of action as a result of the injury.

For Brooklyn, the 22-year-old averaged 26.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Through the first few games of the season, Thomas has emerged as the Nets’ top scorer. His elevation makes sense given that he accomplished a historic feat in the 2022–2023 season.

Cam Thomas made NBA history by being the youngest player to ever score three straight 40-point performances. He can score from all three spots and is a true bucket-getter levels. Brooklyn will miss his offensive productivity as they prepare to enter a long stretch without him.

However, the Nets’ strength in depth should not concern them too much. A major contributor to Brooklyn’s bench scoring has been Lonnie Walker IV. The sixth-year guard is shooting an incredible 43.7% from three-point range and averaging 16.3 points per game.

Walker IV, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Mikal Bridges are capable of filling in for Thomas when he’s on the bench for the Nets. I’m hoping the young guard heals quickly so he may resume his offensive assault.
