FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd took a shot at Auburn football legend Cam Newton during his criticism of Josh Allen during the December 11 edition of The Herd; a criticism that came from a comparison between the two and a warning that the Buffalo Bills quarterback would not age well, not to mention claiming Allen is “much better” than Newton was.
” Josh Allen is so gifted – he’s like Ben Big+, and several layers better than Cam Newton — who may be the best college player I have ever seen,” Cowherd said. “He’s completing passes while falling down… Buffalo is completely and utterly reliant on one player. He is Atlas, holding the world of the Bills above his shoulders. There is no team in this league who is as dependent on a singular player as Buffalo is on Josh Allen. It’s like Cam Newton in Carolina – although Josh is much better – who won an MVP at 26 and then never made a Pro Bowl after that. Too many shots, too much of a burden, and had to carry too much… Josh Allen is going to be fine for the next three or four years, but you do wonder how this thing ages.
“I hope I’m wrong on this, but this is not going to end well in about four more seasons.”
Auburn football legend Cam Newton accomplished more at the point Josh Allen is at right now
While both Newton and Allen excel at improvising out of the pocket, the former was certainly more dynamic in the open field while the latter has a much better arm than Newton ever did at any point.
But, while Cowherd claims Allen is “much” better than Newton was at this point, Newton had an MVP and a Super Bowl appearance under his belt by his sixth season. Allen has neither and doesn’t look likely to add them in his sixth year with his Bills just 7-6 as of this writing.
That’s all without mentioning Newton’s Heisman run that culminated in the 2010 BCS National Championship run he led Auburn on.
