Having signed for Burnley in the summer on loan with an obligation to buy at €18m under certain conditions, Mike Trésor was hoping for far more game time than he is currently receiving.
There were high expectations for the teenage attacker, who had just finished a season with eight goals and 24 assists in 42 appearances, when he arrived at Turf Moor.
The 24-year-old has been sitting on the bench since his previous Burnley appearance on January 12th. He most recently did not play in the 2-2 draw against West Ham, after which he spoke with Walfoot about his circumstances.
Trésor expressed frustration with the outcome, saying that the team still has a strong attitude and will play with the same approach moving forward, even if his teammates were ahead 2-0 at the time.
But he is aware that, given the current situation, selecting the Belgium team for the summer’s Euros “will be complicated,” particularly since Vincent Kompany won’t be playing him. Walfoot notes that, at his current club, he has gone from being a valued asset at KRC Genk to a “ghost.”
Trésor went into a little more detail about how Kompany persuaded him to sign with Burnley in the first place.
“Vincent had a specific kind of football in mind, one that he wanted to play,” the speaker stated I matched it. That’s all. Now, we’ll see. All I need is for people to still believe in me and we’ll see in the future.”
