Darwin Machis, a forward for Cadiz, is scheduled to appear in court in Granada on Wednesday as part of his assault trial. According to Marca, the prosecution is requesting an 18-month prison term and €6,000 in restitution.
In 2021, while he was a student at Granada, the tragedy happened. The police claim that Machis entered the bar with three accomplices and then attacked and insulted a man who was with Machis’ ex-wife and a friend. They damaged a car as they fled the area after doing so.
The defence are asking for an 18-month sentence, but if it is his first offence, then he could escape with a suspended sentence, as is the case for many sentences less than two years.
Should he face jail time, it will be a major blow for Cadiz and Sergio Gonzalez. The Venezuelan provides spark, pace and quality in the final third for the Yellow Submarine, who are not blessed with great depth in terms of those resources.
