Cardiff City faces tough battle for premier league defender>

A number of Championship teams, including Cardiff City, are considering the possibility of bringing in out-of-favor Luton Town fullback Ryan Giles on loan for the balance of the campaign.

Only five of the eleven Premier League outings this season by the Telford-born defender have been starts. He hasn’t played for The Hatters since their Boxing Day 3-2 victory over Sheffield United on the road.

With Jamilu Collins the only available left-back, Cardiff is looking to improve their position. Callum O’Dowda, the backup, is anticipated to be out for another six weeks due to injury.

Giles has fallen in the standings at Kenilworth Road. The Bluebirds are considering taking the attacking left-back in on loan for a second time. He was previously loaned to Wolverhampton Wanderers for 21 appearances and nine assists in the first half of the 2021–2022 season.

The 23-year-old spent the rest of that season on loan at promotion-chasing Blackburn Rovers after being called up by Wolves. His 48 appearances across all competitions during his season-long loan at Middlesbrough the next year included a contribution to Boro’s advancement to the Championship play-off semi-finals, where they were defeated by Coventry City.

The Wolves academy graduate did well enough in the season to earn a move to the Premier League, joining Luton Town, the eventual champions of the play-off final. Giles’s first senior game came in 2018 while on loan at Telford United, where manager Rob Edwards recruited the full-back for an estimated £5 million.

With Cardiff now placed 13th in the Championship league and needing to bounce back from a 3-0 home loss to Leeds United on Saturday, manager Erol Bulut of Cardiff will be monitoring the Luton player’s availability.

Currently ranked 18th in the Premier League, Edwards’ team is fighting to avoid relegation back to the Championship, so it’s uncertain if he will be allowed to depart.

Many Bluebirds supporters would like to see Ryan Giles return, since he was a highly popular player during his brief tenure at Cardiff City two seasons ago. They are calling for more players to be added to the squad. Given Luton’s current situation, it doesn’t seem very probable that they could pull this off, but if they could, it would be a significant acquisition for the South Wales team.

Giles is a fantastic attacking full-back with a tonne of talent who has played in many championships recently. He should get the chance to show off his abilities, and maybe he will soon.
