Cardiff City sign deal with Manchester City youngster

Cardiff City have agreed a deal to sign Manchester City youngster Alex Robertson for an initial fee of around £1m, as per Alex Crook.

Cardiff City are set to add another to their ranks ahead of the Championship season kicking off this weekend.

In the course of a single season, the Bluebirds emerged from a relegation struggle to the 12th spot, and they will be aiming to narrow the distance to the top six this year.

They have been connected to Robertson for a while, but Hull City and other teams have apparently been keeping an eye on Robertson as well.
Now, a deal has been reached for Robertson to relocate to Wales, and according to Crook, it will cost an estimated £1 million up front. The transaction also includes a sizeable sell-on clause.

A great signing

During the previous season, Robertson excelled while on loan with Portsmouth in League One.
Before suffering an injury that would terminate his season, he only participated in 23 league games; nonetheless, in those games, he contributed four assists and one goal from midfield.

The Manchester City prospect has participated in 25 games for their U18 team, scoring 18 goals, and 37 games for their U21 team, scoring 10 goals.

With his finest years yet ahead of him, Cardiff City will be looking to coax goals and assists out of the 21-year-old this season.

He has never played championship football before, so it will be intriguing to watch how he handles the pressures. If handled properly, though, he ought to play a significant role.

A bright future

This season, Bulut’s team will be looking to get out to a quick start, and their summertime business thus far indicates that they are serious about performing well.

There is still plenty of time for them to hire more players or perhaps let one or two go because the transfer window doesn’t close until the end of this month.
However, Robertson is a fantastic addition and more evidence that they are making the correct decisions.

Maintaining his fitness will be crucial, but if they succeed in doing so, he might emerge as a major attraction in Wales rather soon.
But Bulut is aware that nothing is certain at this level, so it will be interesting to see if his strategies work as well this year as they did last.

Cardiff City begin their 2024/25 Championship campaign this Saturday when they welcome Sunderland in their opening fixture.
