Cardiff City star that must leave

Former Sheffield Wednesday man Carlton Palmer believes reported Ipswich Town target Rubin Colwill should stay at Cardiff City for the benefit of his career.

Speaking exclusively to FLW, the 58-year-old expressed his belief that the 22-year-old will find it difficult to get playing time with the recently promoted Tractor Boys and that continuing with the Welsh team will help him grow as a player in the future.

Earlier this week, journalist Darren Witcoop disclosed that several top level teams were interested in the Welsh international offensive midfielder, although the Bluebirds intend to retain him over the summer. This information indicated the Suffolk team’s interest in the player.

With the playmaker having played more than 100 games for his boyhood club, Cardiff academy graduate Erol Bulut, the manager of City, also indicated last month that other elite clubs were after him.

Colwill made his club debut in February 2021 as an 18-year-old. Following his impressive performances for the Welsh team over the previous four seasons, Colwill has since been a player predicted for the top spot.

Colwill, who debuted for his country at the age of 19, has a plethora of experience for his age, even though manager Bulut was hesitant to use him much at first.

Palmer, a former England international, feels that sticking with his childhood club will benefit him more in the long run than moving to the recently promoted East Anglian team because the 22-year-old still seems to be learning his craft.

Palmer, who spoke exclusively to FLW, stated: “Colwill is expected to continue where he is for the time being. The offensive midfield player didn’t have the most prolific season last year, managing just three goals and three assists in 36 league games.

“However, it should be noted that he only started 14 of those games and averaged 45 minutes each contest.

“He is a talented player, and Cardiff will be aiming to hold on to him, and for the player himself there is no point going to Ipswich Town where you’re not going to play.
