Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker in agreement over ‘sensational’ Newcastle United star’

Alan Shearer was full of praise for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes

Following Newcastle United’s victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Bruno Guimaraes scored two goals, earning high plaudits from Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

Eddie Howe’s team won two of their past three Premier League games and bolstered their chances of qualifying for Europe thanks to goals from the Brazilian midfielder, who also scored the game’s opening and last goals in a thrilling five-goal thriller at the City Ground.

After Forest had equalised through Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga, Guimaraes struck low to the bottom corner with his second goal. In the first, he expertly cushioned Kieran Tripper’s cross to the back post beyond Matt Turner.

Shearer couldn’t contain his admiration for Guimaraes, the Brazilian who moved to St James’ Park from Lyon in January 2022 for an estimated £40 million.

“I felt Bruno Guimaraes was amazing,” ex-forward Shearer of Newcastle United said. “An additional advanced role. He was a more aggressive player. However, how did he finish?

“You are aware based on Trippier’s ball in from the set-piece. When the ball is coming from where it is, one of the hardest things to do is volley. And it was a fantastic finish to smash it with that first foot and use your right foot to perform like he did.”

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Lineker concurred wholeheartedly with Shearer, saying, “I love watching him play.”
