One Preston North End star had to retire early due to a terrible injury.

Due to a devastating knee injury, former Preston North abandon defender Darnell Fisher had to abandon his playing career.

Since his Middlesbrough contract ended in the summer, Fisher has been free to sign with any team. As of three months into the current campaign, he still had no deal in place. After the 2020–21 season, the 29-year-old sustained a knee injury that sidelined him for two years.

Seven forty-seven days have passed since his last game for Boro, which was in the team’s 2022–23 season finale against Coventry City.

Several pictures of him from his playing days were posted alongside the statement, “The time has come to hang my boots up due to my knee injury, I’ve tried everything to get back to full fitness but it’s just not meant to be,” that he posted on his personal Instagram account.

“Thank you to all my team mates, clubs and the fans who have supported me over the years.”

Brad Potts, a member of the first squad right now, responded to the news with the words “All the best mate,” while Callum Robinson, a previous loan player, remarked, “My bother man.” What a team member and player. Fish, one love.”

Regarding Fisher’s Preston North End career, he signed for an unknown sum in 2017 and played at Deepdale until 2021. Of the five teams he played for, he had the most appearances for the Lilywhites with 119, where he recorded 12 assists and 1 goal.

In the summer of 2011, he signed his first professional deal with Scottish Premiership giants Celtic, and he went on to play for four different teams. He played 21 games for the Glasgbow team, which won the League Cup in 2015 and the league in 2014.

Before moving on loan to St Johnstone and playing 23 games, the right-back left for Rotherham United in the summer of 2016. Fisher played 35 games with the Millers until Alex Neil signed him after the team was relegated from the Championship. He made 13 appearances for the Riverside Stadium after moving there in January 2021 after being purchased for an alleged £300,000.
