Celtic boss responds to Liverpool links as Reds search for Jurgen Klopp successor’

Ange Postecoglou, the former manager of Celtic, was questioned regarding rumours that he would be a candidate to take over as Liverpool manager at the end of the current campaign, following Jurgen Klopp.

After spending more than eight years in the Anfield bench, Klopp shocked everyone in January by announcing that he would be leaving the team in the summer. Under the German’s direction, the squad that had just placed eighth in the league rose to win the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, Premier League, and two more Champions League finals. They also advanced to the final of the Europa League.

During Klopp’s last months at Anfield, the Reds are still on track to fill their trophy cabinet with further victories; they will play in the League Cup final and are still vying for FA Cup, Premier League, and Europa League titles.

Any manager taking over for Klopp will have a difficult job, but Postecoglou, a lifelong Liverpool supporter, has been mentioned as a candidate. He has a track record of success from his time playing Scottish football with Celtic, having won the Scottish Cup, two Scottish League Cups, and the Premiership thrice.

With the loss of club legend Harry Kane, Postecoglou has already left his imprint at Tottenham and received accolades for his performances and team-casual football style. The former Australia coach, nevertheless, dismissed rumours of relocating outside of North London and insisted he still had a long way to go.

“I think that is self-explanatory, having only been here for seven months,” he told reporters.

The former head coach of the Hoops refused to consider relocation to Anfield. “It all depends,” he continued. Who cares if it’s just people calling each other names? Really, it makes no difference.

“If I am ultimately doing a good job, then people will recognise that in one way or another, whatever that way may be. Chat, as it is called? Really? I have no interest in it.”
