Celtic close in on key target, with ex-Hearts star projected for top six’

Transfer updates from Hibs and Hearts’ Scottish Premiership opponents.

The January transfer window has already seen plenty of movement, with Hearts most recently signing Premier League player Dexter Lembikisa on loan from Wolves. Hibs have also been heavily involved with Leeds United’s Kris Moore, and while the teenager is now in Dubai with the Hibees, he has yet to sign.

There is still plenty of time for Steven Naismith and Nick Montgomery to complete their signings before the window closes. With two weeks till the return to pitch action, here is all the latest transfer news from Hibs, Hearts, and their Premiership opponents.

Ex-Hearts star tipped for top six

Ex-Hearts midfielder tips Brentford’s Scotland full-back and former Jambo Aaron Hickey joins one of England’s big six (Herald). The 21-year-old is currently out of play due to a hamstring injury, but has been a key member of both the Brentford and Scotland defences.

Neil MacFarlane, an ex-Jambo great, described the budding star as a “terrific young player.” A great full-back. First and foremost, he is a really good person with the qualities required to perform where we are now, but I believe he can also improve. Hopefully, he will be able to recover from his injuries and help us before returning to Scotland for the Euros this summer.

“He’s met every obstacle, from Hearts as a teenager to Serie A and now the Premier League. He meets these challenges because he is both grounded and an excellent football player. Joining the Hearts team at the age of 16 fosters character development. Then coming to Italy as a youngster demonstrates true strength. We can see that.

Celtic close in on top target

Celtic have obtained a work permit for Rapid Vienna winger and potential recruit Nicolas Kuhn (The Sun). According to prior reports, the £2.5 million-rated German was at the top of Brendan Rodgers’ shopping list. While the teams are still discussing the exact specifics of the move, the Hoops have received a work permit, overcoming a significant red-tape barrier.

The German U20 international joined Austrian club Rapid in 2022 and has since impressed with three goals and seven assists in 22 games. Wyscout, a data and scouting website, recently ranked him one of world football’s top 12 ‘chance creators’.

Rapid paid £500,000 for him 18 months ago, but they have wanted at least four times that amount from any prospective buyers.

Rangers receive transfer blow

Michy Batshuayi, a reported Rangers target, has stated that he will stay with Fenerbahce “until the end of the season – unless Real Madrid calls” (The Sun).

The Ibrox club was not the only one interested in the 30-year-old Belgian, with Everton also reportedly keeping an eye on the situation. However, the striker has since ruled out leaving Fenerbahce in January.

After scoring from the bench in his team’s 7-1 victory over Konyaspor, Batshuayi told Sport X: “I am here until the end of the season.” My primary goal is to make Fenerbahce champions. Then we’ll talk to the president. I want to stay at Fenerbahce. Of course, if Real Madrid calls, things could change.
