Celtic hit with huge €29k Uefa fine after Atletico Madrid clash
Uefa has fined Celtic again, this time for the actions of their supporters during a recent home game against Atletico Madrid.
On October 25, Diego Simeone’s team scored a late goal to tie the game 2-2 and gain a point at Parkhead.
The Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Council of FIFA has already released the October fines, and Celtic has been heavily penalised once more.
The club was fined €8,000 for blocking public walkways, €3,500 for setting off pyrotechnics, and €17,500 for sending out provocative or unpleasant messages.
The final fine appears to result from the Green Brigade’s display of solidarity with Palestine. Uefa rules mean flags of a political nature cannot be flown during matches.
Atletico were also fined €3,000 for fireworks and the club received a warning for improper conduct after landing a number of bookings during the match.
The announcement follows the Scottish champions’ earlier in the competition fines of €20k for banners and €3500 for fireworks during a show before a match against Lazio.
Celtic supporters unveiled an anti-fascist banner with the phrase “Lazio vaffanculo,” which means “Lazio f*** off,” and pictures of Benito Mussolini.
In addition, the team was fined €23,000 for using fireworks during their opening group game against Feyenoord.
