CELTIC PUSH FOR DOUBLE DEAL’

CELTIC are pushing ahead with plans to extend Liam Scales’ contract which is due to expire in June next year.

Additionally, the Daily Record reports that the champions are in new negotiations with Rocco Vata, a winger for the Republic of Ireland, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

The 25-year-old Scales, who appeared to be returning to Aberdeen for a second consecutive season on loan before the Northern Irishman’s second arrival in June, has impressed Brendan Rodgers.

The adaptable back-four player has established himself as a mainstay in central defence to the point where the £3 million acquisition Gustaf Lagerbielke is surplus to requirements at the champions and will most likely be traded within a year of his Elfsborg move.

Following a few preseason friendly, Rodgers acknowledged that he enjoyed Scales’ style, as CQN reported back in July.

The defender, who can also play left-back, was signed by Ange Postecoglou from Shamrock Rovers in August 2021. Since then, he has established himself in the Republic of Ireland’s lineup, increasing his value significantly from the £650,000 the Hoops initially spent on him.

In the upcoming weeks, Celtic intends to complete the transfer and make a double announcement, as Vata, the son of former Parkhead player Rudi, is set to get a new contract offer.
The intriguing 18-year-old prospect, who scored his first goal for the team in the 5-0 Scottish Cup victory over Buckie Thistle last month, is set to receive an improved four-year deal.
