Domenico Tedesco, head coach of the Belgian national team, has used Arne Engels of Celtic as a shining example to support his argument that some of the nation’s up-and-coming talent need to cultivate a winning attitude.
After recently acknowledging that certain prospective stars haven’t been performing up to par, the German manager has sent a strong message to several of Belgium’s young, up-and-coming players, including Engels.
Tedesco spoke to the media this week following the announcement of his most recent team for the UEFA Nations League matchups against Italy and Israel later this month. Despite Engels being in the senior squad last month, he chose not to call up the Hoops’ £11 million player for the international camp in November.
The 21-year-old earned his Belgium debut in September thanks in large part to his efforts for Brendan Rodgers’ team since joining on Deadline Day in the summer from FC Augsburg. In 13 appearances thus far across all competitions, he has three goals and six assists.
Tedesco clarified, “You cannot possibly paint everyone with the same brush, because everyone has their own character and plays in a specific club in a specific country,” in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad. I will stop providing limitless opportunities. And it’s true that the youth are being pressured. After that, it depends on whether they decide to take it up or not.
As a result, the direct results might not always reflect this right away. Additionally, we performed admirably against France at home, and for an hour in Italy, it was also terrific.
Each football player is unique. Experience comes easily to many of the players here, and many have made significant progress. For instance, Arne Engels competes for the championship at Celtic. However, they have undoubtedly
to exert pressure. They wouldn’t have arrived here otherwise.
