Celtic will look to bring in a striker, a central midfielder and a left winger in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that a centre-forward is the number one priority for Brendan Rodgers as he is set to lose Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu for the Asian Cup in the new year.
Football Insider was also informed by sources that the manager is keen to add goals to the engine room by bringing in a productive central midfield player.
In the winter transfer window, Rodgers anticipates that Celtic will be fairly active, and he hopes to bolster his undermanned team by adding players in these three areas.
Since current number one Joe Hart’s contract is set to expire in the summer, bringing in a new long-term custodian could also be an option, though this is not expected to be a priority this January.
Despite adding seven senior players, including Odin Thiago Holm, Luis Palma, and Maik Narwocki, the Hoops apparently turned a profit in the summer. However, the team is anticipated to make a comeback this winter.
Football Insider (December 26) has also been informed by sources that West Ham, a Premier League team, is closely monitoring star midfielder Matt O’Riley.
Despite interest from several elite English clubs, sources also told Football Insider (December 27) that the Hoops do not want to sell O’Riley in January.
Following their 3-0 victory over Dundee away on Boxing Day, Celtic is still atop the Scottish premier league. They will next take on rivals Rangers at home on Saturday, December 30.
