Celtic transfer state of play as champions gear up for deadline day’

All the latest surrounding the Hoops as they go into deadline day sweating on two key stars.

Celtic will make a last-minute rush to add players on deadline day, but they are also concerned about a serious injury to Reo Hatate.

According to Record Sport, the Hoops are reportedly looking for a left back in the final hours of the transfer window, following the arrival of Adam Idah in Glasgow to finalise his season-long loan from Norwich City. It is thought that the agreement with the hitman does not include an option to purchase; nevertheless, if the switch goes well, both teams may be able to work things out in the summer. As the midnight deadline approaches, manager Brendan Rodgers is also considering adding depth to the lineup to replace Greg Taylor. Several loan targets are in play.

With his contract expiring at the end of the current campaign, midfielder David Turnbull may be heading in the opposite direction, as Cardiff City looks to sign him. Due to concerns about Cameron Carter-Vickers’ injury, the Celtics are going to abandon their plan to loan out their star defender to Lecce, even though the £3 million Swedish player has begged to be allowed to travel to Italy. With Reo Hatate hobbling out of the Asian Cup, Rodgers is also bracing himself for another body blow.

The midfielder was forced off after just 36 minutes in Japan’s last 16 victory against Bahrain. And there are huge concerns the 26-year-old could be facing another spell out.

Hatate’s suspected calf knock is still being assessed by Japanese medical stuff with Celtic officials being kept informed. The playmaker only just back from long-term injury and has managed just 11 appearances for the champions this season after tearing a calf in the opening weeks of the season and then ripping his hamstring a few games into his comeback in October.

The Japan star spent two months out but returned to the side before the New Year in the 3-0 win against St Mirren before jetting out to Qatar for the Asian Cup. Hatate was an unused sub in the group stage defeat to Iran but started the 3-1 victory against Indonesia and was a stand out on the pitch in the opening period in the Bahrain clash.

However, the former Kawasaki ace’s injury curse struck once more, raising questions about whether the knock is a return of the calf issue he had earlier in the season. Hidemasa Moriyasu, the head of Japan, stated: “I want to hear the doctor’s diagnosis.

“However, injuries hurt the players as well as the team, but we have to keep the game going and win regardless of who gets hurt.”

The head of the Houston Rockets is currently awaiting word on the full extent of the damage, while defender Cameron Carter-Vickers’s status is still unknown due to injury. In the victory last Saturday, the centre half played for an hour against Ross County before being withdrawn as a precaution.

After recovering from significant knee surgery at the end of the previous season, Carter-Vickers has been plagued by a number of bothersome problems. Prior to Saturday’s Premiership trip to Aberdeen, the 26-year-old, who signed a new five-and-a-half year contract at Parkhead last week, is being evaluated.

After the Samurai Blue advanced to the quarterfinals, where Parkhead friends Oh Hyeon-gyu and Yang Hyun-jun are also engaged with South Korea, Rodgers will still be without Hatate and Japan partner Daizen Maeda.

Idah’s arrival will increase Rodgers’ attacking options because the 6′ 3″ striker can replace Kyogo. The 22-year-old has already earned 22 caps for the Republic of Ireland and has six goals in 12 starts for the Canaries this season strike against Holland in a 2-1 defeat last year among his three international goals.
