Celtic’s Hartson defends Green Brigade raises ‘singled out’ fear

Celtic hero John Hartson has mounted a defence of the Green Brigade following comments at the club’s AGM

For the foreseeable future, the Parkhead ultras are prohibited from attending both home and away games because of what the Hoops management described as a “increasingly serious escalation in unacceptable behaviours and non-compliance with applicable regulations.”

Additionally, the subject was covered at the AGM, where mention of the group elicited a mixture of jeers and applause from the assembled audience.

Hartson, however, has voiced his worries, believing that the club and fans have been “singled out”.

He remarked, “It seems like they are singling out Celtic and the Green Brigade in a particular way,” when speaking on Go Radio.

Indeed, they are not without defects. Yes, their fines have cost Celtic a great deal of money over the years, but you also have to consider other teams, which I hope they are considering, since every team will have its share of good players and bad players.

“As far as their singing and behaviour go, I played in Scotland for five years, and throughout that time I visited away games and heard what the fans were saying and yelling.

“All I can hope is that other clubs are being considered besides Celtic. Since supporters of other teams are not perfect either, I hope it is taken into consideration by all.
