Chris Sutton and the Celtic ‘nightmare’ is experiencing’

According to Chris Sutton, Brendan Rodgers is having a ‘horror’ replacing Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

Kilmarnock defeated the champions 2-1 at Rugby Park in the Hoops’ first Premiership encounter of the season.

Derek McInnes defeated Rodgers for the second time this season, having previously knocked the holders out of the Viaplay Cup in August.

With Killie’s victory secured, Rangers received a big shot in the arm in the title hunt. The difference is now only five points as the Glasgow derby approaches at the end of the month. Philippe Clement’s team is also in action.

Rodgers has been on the verge of a domestic defeat for some time, according to Sutton, after slipping up against Motherwell just a few weeks ago.

And the former Parkhead striker believes the Irishman is trying to fill Postecoglou’s shoes after he left for Tottenham in the summer.

“This was coming, and it’s been coming all season,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live. Whether you want to combine domestic and Champions League play, which I believe you can. The Champions League has been a huge letdown. Celtic were unprepared, they were unprepared.

“They should’ve been prepared.” They’d known they’d qualified for a long time. After all those years of qualifying rounds and tension, Celtic were finally in.

“The issue with Brendan Rodgers was following Postecoglou. You can see what kind of football he plays at Tottenham. With Postecoglou, everything moved quickly and furiously. There have been areas – and that’s the best word to describe it – patches in games, even in the first half-hour against Kilmarnock when Celtic were excellent but failed to capitalise on their chances.

“As far as I can tell, there are concerning signs, and I don’t believe the fanbase is duped by what’s going on.” The main concern this weekend is that you may lose matches in a variety of ways; you might be outplayed by a team but not outpaced or outfought. That’s exactly what Kilmarnock did. Celtic appeared to freeze and be afraid. Domestically, that is exactly correct shouldn’t happen.

Brendan has mentioned bringing in additional quality in January. But Celtic have their own plan; it’s a development model, and we all know what it is because they can’t compete with Premier League teams and spend that kind of money.

“For example, Sheffield United are bottom of the Premier League this season and have spent three times as much on transfers as Celtic.” They are unable to compete.

“But what I can’t figure out is how Celtic can bring in players who have been there and done that while staying within the parameters of their particular model.” That is the problem. It appears that things need to be updated.

“But this was bound to happen. Many performances have covered up the fractures, despite the fact that they have only lost one game in the league this season. It hasn’t been as smooth or flowing, and Brendan is having nightmares about following Postecoglou. That is correct.”
